CRITERIA FOR ELIGIBILITY INTO THE ASSPS STUD BOOK
* In order to be eligible for registration ponies must be of a recognised whole colour. No broken colour
accepted - no cremellos or perlinos accepted.
* No wall or pale blue eyes accepted.
* No heriditary faults accepted.
* All Australian Stud Saddle Ponies C, B, A and AA Group must not have any less than 25% Arabian
blood and no more than 75% Arabian blood.
* All Australian Stud Saddle Pony colts and stallions must have a minimum of 50% Arabian blood and
maximum of 75% Arabian blood.
* E Group Geldings must have less than 25% Arabian blood.
* D Group mares may only have a maximum of 6.25% Thoroughbred blood
* C Group ponies may only have a maximum of 3.125% Thoroughbred blood.
This programme is designed to give AA Group Australian Stud Saddle Ponies a minimum of 46.875% Arab blood and a maximum of 75% thus leaving a variation of only 28.125% Arab blood. The pony blood would be a maximum of 53.125% and a minimum of 25%. This would also leave a variation of 28.125% pony blood which makes it possible to breed ponies of a similar standard known as the Australian Stud Saddle Pony AA Group.
If the Society were to allow stallions to be registered with only 25% Arab blood it would result in a variation of Arabian and pony blood of 50%, making it very difficult to breed ponies of a similar standard for a AA Group.
